Ultra sound...and picture too!

Yesterday was a bit of a time of distress, pain, and uncertainty.

Dana all of a sudden started having severe cramping and then pain in her lower abdomen. The area where this was happening was her left ovary.

From what we knew about this and learned on the Internet, this could mean ectopic pregnancy or ovarian cyst. We were starting to think she was either going to miscarry or have an ectopic pregnancy (the pregnancy is not viable and is in the fallopian tube, this can be fatal for the mother).

I said a short prayer, for the Lord to make this not a serious problem and that it would pass.

I didn't know what to do, but I thought no matter what happens, this is going to be serious. So we decided to take her to the emergency room. We were both very saddened and upset because we thought we were going to lose the baby.

And to our amazement and delight, they did the ultra-sound and here is what they found:
A beating heart and a healthy baby!

Apparently, the pain could be either of two things. The Corpus Luteum "cyst" on the left ovary, where the fertilized egg originated; or the three fibroids found on the outside of her uterus. However, the Corpus Luteum is normal but known to cause severe pain in some women; and the fibroids may cause discomfort, but should not interfere with the pregnancy.
