Matt is feeding our chickens oat meal. Normally you don't feed chickens premium rolled oats. However, these oats aren't fit for human consumption; they have racoon slober on them. The metal barrel in the left background is for dumping our fecal matter. The camper shell in the right background is the chickens coop.
I'm finally able to read you all's blog again. I lost the site when I closed my Google account.
ReplyDeleteThings are looking great and I love being able to see all the photos.
I noticed you all said you have a barrel for pooh pooh. I recall a book I read once said sprinkling a little "Comet" or "Ajax" on that stuff can help take care of any smell. May not be a very bio think to do, however. Thought I'd mention it.
Take care,
James M and co.
You didn't comment about the larger dwelling past the chicken's camper-coop. Do the Herrod's stay there?

Good to here from you again James; we have found that ashes poured over the top of our doo-doo works great to hide the smell and keep the flies away.
ReplyDeleteHi Mom, I'm glad you are enjoying the blog; and yes, that is the Harrod's dwelling.
ReplyDelete"racoon slobber" HAHAHA! That made me laugh.

Yeah, well, the raccoons got to some of our stuff, and I didn't feel comfortable risking eating something they're saliva touched. So we have had to feed a spoiled loaf of bread, whole wheat flour, and the oats to our chickens. They're spoiled. Actually, we don't have to feed them anything. They are fattening up on just the bugs they find around. But no worries, we haven't seen the racoon around since I unloaded a ten round clip on him.
ReplyDeleteRecently on Nightline or such, they featured a man near Detroit, MI, who hunts raccoons for the meat and even sells some of it. (hint-hint)
