Scripture Tidbit

A lovely Indian meal in our home

I was inspired to cook an authentic indian meal
My chicken curry, filled with fun spices and ingredients

Here is my naan bread, which I will say also makes a great pizza dough!

A lot has happened since our last post; so I won't spend a lot of time discussing each topic.

After our visit to Colorado we decided to move there. Our bungelo in Missouri would not have kept us warm enough through the winter. My sister in Colorado invited us to stay through the winter. We had not made any significant headway on the property in Missouri, so I saw no sense in returning next spring. So we decided Colorado was our best option.

We arrived here in Colorado September 10th. I have been hired by a computer software company as a Tier I Technical support. I start the position tomorrow. God proves himself yet again as our provider.

Cucumbers aren't doing too bad either.

GET WHAT YOU WANT, NOT JUST WHAT YOU NEED

You may have heard the song that goes “You may not get what you want; but you find sometimes, that you get what you need.” We can all relate to those words in many ways and even add, “you may get what you want, but you may find sometimes that it‘s NOT what you need.”
This isn’t another self-help method or another “get-rich-quick” scheme. This is a message.
This is the message, “You can have what you want, which is actually what you need.”

This message is NOT about having your every whim and impulse satisfied. Some of the worst mistakes ever made are those made when we think fulfilling an impulse of the moment will get us what we want.

This message is NOT about “wanting” things that you don’t really “want”, but about “wanting” things that nothing else can compare to.

Don’t you want an abundant life?

“I came that they might have life, and have it more abundantly.” -Jesus

Don’t you want eternal life?

“He who believes in me, though he die, will live again.” -Jesus

Don’t you want happiness? Jesus spoke a whole message on happiness. Here are some excerpts of that message:

“Happy is he who mourns now…” “Happy is he who hungers now…” “Happy is he who thirsts now…” “Happy are you when men persecute you…"

Don’t you want PEACE?

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.” ~Jesus

Don’t you want JOY?

“This is my commandment that you love one another that your joy might be full…”

Don’t you want your faults forgiven?

“Who is this who even forgives sins?”

Do you want these things? Then you need to turn from your ways and go to God.

The WAY?

"Thomas said to Him, 'Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?' Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'"

Here is a picture of a large spider web that was hanging outside our door. It is neat to see the intricacy and detail put into this trap.
Here is another view from inside our home. You may notice our toilet bucket in the left corner; we have a pretty comfy toilet seat, which Matt built. We have a couple toilets, this one is strictly for indoor use. We call this bucket "number 1".
Here is Matt working on our garden. He has costructed some wooden fencing to prop up the tomatoes, as they are growing a little top heavy.

a dragonfly wanted to hang out with Matt.

Matt spent a good part of the day trying to arrange the tarp so that we don't collect water uptop when it rains. It a also works  to keep our house shaded during the day so it doesn't get like 120 degrees inside.
It was exciting for me that is was finally cool enough to spend time inside to get things cleaned and organized!
I had fun organizing the kitchen.
Matt is working on planting peppers, tomatoes and squash.

Dana blazed another trail. The purpose of this trail is so we don't have tick-infested brush rubbing against our legs when we go to water or caretake the fruit trees.

Cucumber seedlings.
Above right: green beans. The other plants are cabbages.
Close up on a cabbage.
Future location of our second vegi garden.
You can see our plum tree has grown.
A patch of wild blueberries that we have begun to caretake.

The idea to attach screen throughout the middle of the poly ethelyne plastic seemed the most economical and easiest fix to our delimma. + it added much needed ventilation! However, this posed another problem; how to protect the top from rainfall.
After sheeting is spliced to screen and installed.
Picture from outside-backdoor.
Indoor shelf for storage and workspace.
No more nights spent in the wagon, moving day is here!
Tarpoline cover errected above our dwelling to keep the rain out. As you can see, there is much clean up to be done.

Friday, May 14, 2010

It has pretty much done nothing but rain lately. Dana and I have been working 30 hours this week, so this combined with bad weather has limited our time working on the property.

We manged to cover our dwelling with a tarpaulin after caulking and painting it. However, strong winds blew water inside and washed out some of the caulk that hadn't fully dried. This was minimal damage comparatively.

Another set back to our building plans: when we went to put the plastic sheeting on, it came out to 20' wide instead of 24' wide. This did not allow enough play on the ends to secure the plastic. Again another blunder on my part. The box, said 20' x 100', when all this time I thought I had bought 24' x 100' plastic.

Discouraged, I set to thinking about how to fix this problem; mostly trying to ignore what looked like a dire situation. We prayed, and petitioned the Lord for help.

Perhaps this new idea to screen the top section is the Lord's direction.

Stay tuned...

As you can see, we have got up the OSB walls. You would think by just looking at it that it's only a matter of putting on the plastic. However, there is a lot of little modifications and touch ups left to do. For instance I have to put in some diagonal supports, cauk and seal cracks, cauk and seal edges of OSB, paint exposed surfaces, and secure the PVC to the wood framing. But we are very close!

Among other critters, we have some of the largest spiders I have ever seen. You can see the egg sack being carried under its behind.

Trail that Dana blazed up the mountain. We need this path to truck soil up to our apple trees as they are being planted. As the weather warms up, we have been run out by ticks. In one place alone, I spotted and exterminated at least 7 ticks before leaving the area. Of all these ticks spotted, we have not had a tick burrow in us for weeks (-I do believe angels are helping us with this, because petitions have been made to God regarding this subject.-)
These wild flowers are blooming in various locations on the property, they are called Pansy Violets or Chicken Foot Violets.
We were so excited to get our first fruit tree in the ground! This particular tree is a Santa Rosa Dwaft plum. We chose to plant it at the bottom of the easement on the left side of the road.

The house building project has resumed, after waiting several days for a clear day! Here you can see we put up some of the framing to the front door, and mud room.

Hi all. We had misplaced our camera, and then we found it in the rain. Posts are so much more fun with pictures, so this has prevented us from posting. We are letting our camera dry. It was in the case, but it rained for three days, so we're not sure how much water got inside.

Anyway, Dana and I have been working at a local Supermarket for a week now. We were able to each get part-time positions and work the same hours, and we praise God for this opportunity.

Please pray that we would get more accomplished around the property; it feels like we take a step to take 2 steps backwards.

Matt is feeding our chickens oat meal. Normally you don't feed chickens premium rolled oats. However, these oats aren't fit for human consumption; they have racoon slober on them. The metal barrel in the left background is for dumping our fecal matter. The camper shell in the right background is the chickens coop.

Plants that the Wienholds gave us. 12 plants that consist of 6 cabbages, and 6 different varieties of tomatoes.
Cutting fallen trees into log rounds. This is one of the locations of our gardens, so we are clearing everything to get the area ready. Also notice the lush green in the background; it is quite beautiful here in the Spring time. We plan to post more pictures of the Spring beauty soon.

Our PVC frame went up this afternoon.

Hang out on the top of the hill side next to a favorite tree.

A beautiful sunny day for hanging laundry!

Our shower facility that Matt constructed out of fallen wood. We had a fun time together collecting it from the property surrounding us.
